‘Inspiration can be found all around us’
my story
My name Is Gareth Bennett a 37 year old, who is passionate about art and geometrical shapes. I was born under the South African sun, from Springs near Johannesburg. An area famous for its art deco heritance, the Ndebele tribe art, City murals and colourful art expressions.
It was in Africa where I learnt to love colour, as in there, vibrant traditions meet western modernity, every occasion is welcomed with colourful, symmetrical outfits and tons of creativity.
In my 20’s I came to Europe, where I worked as a designer, draughman and ended up managing projects for a stone company. There I turned Natural Stone into shapes and patterns creating sleek and functional pieces, working closely with every customer to design some of the most beautiful and luxurious surfaces for every living space.
Now life has brought me to the beautiful city of Plymouth, Devon, where the cliffs of the Hoe to the beautiful marshes of Dartmoor inspire my new pieces.
There is something about natural wood that inspires me, the smell, texture, grains and especially how it can be renewed with some creativity and a splash of colour, this flexibility in wood allows me to reflect different stories into each piece that I create.
